Christmas Eve

"I'm sorry…"
   I could feel his hands still as I uttered these words. He placed the bowl in which he'd been spooning me soup on the bedside table. His expression was that of confusion as he peered into my eyes. The dim lighting in the room cast shadows along his handsome face, his distinguished features made prominent. Hair dark as ebony was pulled back behind a knitted cap, a few strands falling just past his eyebrows. Face bare and vulnerable, he was far more beautiful than any digitally altered photo his agency could produce. How was it, then, that I was deserving of someone like him?
